Ford Abbey Farm is a 280-acre farm set in a beautiful North Herefordshire valley at Docklow nr Leominster, purchased in the late 1990's by Dr Albert Heijn
and his wife Monique.
Their passion for the Hereford Breed saw them determined to establish their own herd and breed the finest quality cattle, and promote the breed as a whole through the showring. Dr and Mrs Heijn appointed Richard Bowen in 2001, and they initially purchased a 17-month-old bull Dendor 1 Unicorn- from former Breed Society President, Denis Jones from Newtown. His brother George joined Richard, in 2003, and together they began showing cattle with the Ford Abbey prefix.Unicorn went on to have great success in the showring, but more importantly proved to be a great herd sire. One of his sons - Ford Abbey 1 Albert is following in the showring success - winning "Bull of the year 2005". From then to the present date the herd has grown rapidly and there are now 90 cows currently on the farm. Having built the herd up, the emphasis is still on quality and welfare of the animals. |
